A Michigan Family with Over a Century of Trust.

Alex Joseph Danboise opened a plumbing and hardware shop at Grand River and Spokane in Detroit in 1925. He wasn’t thinking about a hundred-year legacy — he was thinking about showing up and doing the job right. That part hasn’t changed.

His son Hall took over in 1966. Hall’s daughter Carol came to work alongside her father after college, and eventually brought in a young plumber named Jack Gatewood — who she later married. When Hall passed away in 1978, Carol and Jack stepped in and kept going. Jack earned his Master Plumber’s license and Mechanical Contractor’s license. Together they grew the business and moved it from Detroit to Redford to Farmington Hills, turning a neighborhood shop into the full-service company it is today.

In 2017, Carol’s daughter Amy became the fourth-generation owner. The fifth generation of the family is already learning the trades. A hundred years in, and it’s still the same family — still showing up for Metro Detroit homeowners one job at a time.

The appointment was easy to make and we were even able to move the appointment up, which worked great for us.  Tim the technician was very nice and knowledgeable.  He didn't mind me asking questions and hanging out watching what he was doing.  This is our second time calling AJ Danboise and  I would definitely call them again with any issues we have in the future. Update: I called AJ Danboise last night at 9pm because we had a furnace issue. Someone was at my house the next morning by 9:30am to look into the issue. Chris was quick to identify the issue, and explain it to me. He was able to fix the problem within a few minutes after getting the part and we we had heat again.  I've always had great experiences with the technicians and schedulers. Update: Sept 2026 - called AJ about having our plumbing inspection and making sure we had backflow preventers on our sprinklers and outside spigots. Jake listened to my requests and was quick, kind and helped me understand my options before installing anything.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. On September 3, 2026, a massive storm knocked out power in my neighborhood. My generator kiced in, however after about 15 minutes my hard wired smoke/carbon monoxide detectors started chirping and would not stop. I called AJ Danboise in the morning and they were able to send Harrisen Panek and his assistant to sort out the problem. They removed all 8 devices and reset each on. They also show me how to remove and how to reset the devices myself! When it was time to pay for the service call I was to there is no charge because I am a AJ Danboise member!

Martin was courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. He went through all the details with me regarding the problem with our air conditioner. He explained all of the options which made it easy to make a decision. I would request to have Martin come again next time we have an issue with our furnace or air conditioner. Jeremy came out to quote a new furnace and air conditioner. He made all his calculations and provided a price for what would work best for our house. He did not oversell us or try to sell us something we did not need. Jeremy was out again recently on another problem. He quickly resolved the issue. While he was here, He also performed a furnace inspection, and diagnosed that the electronic air purifier was not working. He gave me a quick quote and came back the next day and installed a new Aprilaire 5000. Everything works perfectly, and the workspace was clean when he left.
